Business Angels are heaven sent for Kent companies

Investor confidence in Kent is helping local companies to grow, thanks to the work of Kent Investor Club (KIC) after its latest meeting to consider the injection of investment into three firms.
The third meeting of KIC was hosted by Kent Science Park, near Sittingbourne, on Monday 22 March, and held at the Kent Science Resource Centre.
Managed by regional funding organisation Finance South East and part funded by Kent County Council, KIC is a group of private investors, often described as Business Angels, from across the county. The members of KIC include high-net worth individuals who are keen to consider investments in early-stage, high-growth business opportunities.
The March meeting brought together 10 potential investors who listened to presentations from three Kent-based companies – one from the microbiology sector, one cleantech and the third involved in media.
Richard Wheeler, Head of Business Development at Kent Science Park commented:
“Two of our Science Park companies are now well on the way to securing investment after presenting their business cases to members of KIC."
“Private equity is essential in encouraging early stage growth potential, especially as these types of business often struggle to secure traditional banking finance. While we welcome the Chancellor’s announcement that RBS and Lloyds Group are to earmark £41bn of lending to small and medium-sized businesses, Business Angels and Finance South East will continue to play an important role in nurturing the success of many high-growth companies.”
Sally Goodsell of Finance South East added: “Although details of the angel’s investments and companies have to remain confidential, we have been delighted with the range and quality of the companies that we have seen and this goes to prove that there are many innovative and exciting companies based in the Kent region who could really benefit from this sort of investment.”
